Approval of Minutes
Motion to approve the minutes from Sept 19th meeting were approved by Heather and Irene.
Board
Board was in Execute session from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. Jen Martz, Shari Edleson, Gina Mehigan, and Christine Gunner were in attendance. Secretary Lauren Levin was not in attendance.
Treasurer’s Report-Gina Mehigan
The Food Book fundraiser performed over budget. There was a total of 370 books sold raising $2900 for DMS. Half Day Snack Sales, Spirit Wear, and After School Snack Cart are all performing as expected.

Thank you notes were received from Mrs. Varner’s class for winning the Rita’s Water Ice Party(Food Book sale.) A thank you note was also received from a class of 2017 for the ADT award. The student is taking tech classes at Cherokee this year.

Flat Panels are replacing smart boards. They are like a large iPad

This year’s Chromebook are more durable than previous year. Insurance $75 for incoming 6th graders, stay with student until 8th grade, they also get to keep them. Insurance is not mandatory. Chromebook stay at school.

Flat Panel Inititive-touchpad tv called Promethium. These will replace the smart boards currently in the classroom. Each school has one Promethium per grade.

State of Schools- No Child Left Behind is now Every Student Succeeds Act.

District Focus-Science -grade specific-6th grade focus is on earth science, 7th grade focus is on life science, 8th grade focus is on physical science. Social Studies- is under revision. Absenteeism- 18 days is chronic. Goal is to have 95% attendance rate. Better attendance the better the student does in school. Two absents a month is on the path to chronic absenteeism.

Security Drill- Lock down strobe light flashing outside of building and doors are locked. Shelter in place-no strobe light

Executive/Committee Reports-Christine Gunner(Fundraising) Shari Edelson(Special Events)
Fundraising - Dine Night Out- Chick-Fil-A earned $200.00 Panera is on 11/14. We need at least 20 DMS families to participate to earn any credit.
David’s Cookie Dough pick up is 11/20 from 2pm-6pm. Thank you to Heather for helping with the flyers and distribution! David’s Cookie fundraiser was just shy of making the budgeted amount, but it still did well.
Special Events- Gina did the voice over for Shari. Koryn did an amazing job for the 6th grade social. Dolphin Bing is Dec 1st right after school. There will be a late bus for students. There was 48 students last year, we are hoping to get the number up this year. There will be prizes, snacks and Mr “Bingo” Bree will be caller for Dolphin Bingo. Snowball Dance is Jan 26th. Jeanine is our amazingly creative chair. She will need assistance in transforming the cafeteria into a magical winter wonderland. Please see the sign up genius to lend a hand! Your help is greatly appreciated in making this a wonderful event for our departing 8th graders!
